On Summoning Magic, p3

Part of a series (prev notes 1 and 2 and (this) and 4)

Acquisition of summons is also something to consider. How do you get these bad boys? This is another thing where it's been done a bunch of different ways.

Maybe you just level up and learn them like spells? Maybe they're part of some sort of skill/job point system? Maybe they're in an item that needs to be equipped - or consumed?  Or perhaps, they're semi-secret bosses out in the world that must be located and captured. Personally, that last method is my favorite. Think about all the "endgame dungeons" in FF4, 5, and 6, which were fantastic little adventures - but mostly, just served as a method to give you the summon.

FF5 in particular comes to mind - the Phoenix summon, Where you have to meet up with your flying mount from earlier in the game.. and well, you know how you get a Phoenix, right? Then there was FF4, where you literally visited the land of Espers and beat the King and Queen to "earn" their summons. And FF6.. Man, Terra is one of my most favorite RPG characters ever.. Because she effectively summons herself with her Morph ability. How COOL is that?

Anyway, I haven't yet decided which way I want summons to play. But I have decided two more looks. Behold, Baphomet, The Sky's Tyrant, The Lord of Storms, and Saint Gremory, The Impressario, The Herald of the Arts
