On Summoning Magic, p2

Part of a series (prev notes 1and (this) and 3 and 4)

Just a quick rumination before work today.

Another thing to think about with summons is cost and timing.  Can you just blow a bunch of MP and nuke the field at the start of the fight? Does it require TP or some sort of combo bar built up? What about the "Blood Magic" mechanic - Can we spend HP for summons? (Yes)

But what about the summons themselves? I mean, it's cool enough to summon a random monster, but there's a certain amount of mystique and prestige that comes with a set of summoned characters that MEAN something. Final Fantasy is the obvious example here - Bahamut is just like.. Bahamut.  But no, because Bahamut appears in many other things - Because it's ancient mythology. But you know FF's Bahamut better than any of that, right?

In Asqueria, Major summons are from one of a couple pools:

  • Primordials - Paragons of the Elemental Planes
  • Dream/Nightmare based - Future deities, or deities that may or may not be

Here's one of each. The Inevitable End, and Saint Lilith, Mistress of the Flesh.
